The classic 4088 Directional Headset Microphone is the industry standard in professional headset mics. It offers an open and natural sound making it ideal for both spoken word and vocal performance applications.
This mic provides excellent off-axis rejection in high-SPL situations. It efficiently suppresses distant sound sources making it perfect for demanding live performance environments where background noise and feedback are concerns. In high-SPL events, or when feedback is a concern, this microphone will tackle these challenges with ease. The bass response is designed for optimal linearity at 2-3 cm (1 inch) from the sound source. This means that the bass roll-off will be relatively prominent at a greater distance - a paramount factor when it comes to rejection of background noise and in the fight to avoid feedback.
The smooth and elegant design of the 4088 Directional Headset Microphone makes it the most invisible head-worn true cardioid microphone in the world. This microphone has a secure, dual-ear design that can be used for various performing talent applications. It has a small .64 cm (.25 in) diameter, which allows for discreet use. It only weighs 14 g (.5 oz) and is very comfortable when worn for long periods. The microphone can be mounted on the right or left side.
The boom is 3 cm (1 in) longer than on the omnidirectional version, which matches the need for placement at the corner of the mouth. To avoid "popping", the capsule should not be placed directly in front of the mouth
Legacy or CORE by DPA – the choice is yours
The legacy 4088 has always been, and still is, one of the most clear, consistent and robust miniature microphones you can find on the market. It’s known for working across a wide dynamic range as well as exhibiting low distortion across all SPLs. If you need to squeeze a little more performance out of your mics, choose CORE. The 4088 CORE gets a 14 dB increase in dynamic range:
IP58 certified
All CORE by DPA technology microphones are IP58 certified. This durability is achieved through a number of defense mechanisms:
• Water-repellant nano-coating of the cover and housing
• Hermetic sealing of the sensitive amplifier at the core of the mic
• Dual gold plating of the diaphragm
A bit about cardioids
Named for its “heart shaped” polar pattern, a cardioid (or directional) microphone has the most sensitivity at the front and is least sensitive from the sides and at the back. They come in many variations – with wider or narrower angles of sensitivity (supercardioid, hypercardioid, wide cardioid etc.). Although cardioids also pick up sound coming in from the sides, this off-axis sound will normally be more or less colored and damped. The unique DPA capsule technique however skips the colorization of the sound coming from the sides or the rear of the mic and just reduces the sensitivity to these angles and thereby offers perfect sound stages. The amount of damping depends on the exact specifications of the mic.
A cardioid microphone is, by definition, damped -6 dB at the 90°side entry of the microphone but for many, the word cardioid generally covers mics with a directional pattern versus omnis, which pick up sound from all directions.
Due to their nature, directional mics are often used on the live stage – both during concerts as well as spoken-word events, to capture the focused sound of an instrument or voice. The narrow angle of sensitivity helps to minimize the bleed from other sounds on a busy stage. One thing to note with cardioid mics is the proximity effect, which causes an increase in bass response the closer the microphone is moved to the sound source. Therefore, when judging mic specs you should always look for a statement stating the distance at which the flat frequency response has been measured. In addition, cardioid mics are far more sensitive to wind, pop and handling noises than omni mics, so be sure to take precautions to guard against this.

Legendary sound - flexible headset
Combining the legendary sound of the 4088 Directional Capsule with the lightweight and DPA's flexible headset system, the 4288 Directional Headset Microphone is ideal for both spoken word and vocal performance applications. It offers accurate and natural voice intelligibility and very high-SPL capabilities – users can both speak and sing into the mic with no hint of distortion.
This mic provides excellent off-axis rejection in high-SPL situations. It efficiently suppresses distant sound sources making it perfect for demanding live performance environments where background noise and feedback are concerns. In high-SPL events, or when feedback is a concern, the 4088 Directional Capsule will tackle these challenges with ease. The bass response is designed for optimal linearity at 2-3 cm (1 in) from the sound source. This means that the bass roll-off will be relatively prominent at a greater distance – a paramount factor when it comes to rejection of background noise and in the fight to avoid feedback. The microphone capsule is also optimized for low distortion as well as humidity resistance.
The 4288 is available as an earset or headset. Earset variants are the quickest to put on and often the best choice when miking needs to be fast and easy for example for conference use. Headset variants sit more securely around the head and are ideal for active performance situations. Both types are ergonomically designed to fit comfortably and easily. This mic adjusts to fit any ear size and head shape while at the same time it mounts securely and is hardly visible. By rotating the boom and the earhook, the microphone can be easily used on either the left or the right ear. The connector splits the cable from the microphone boom allowing you to swap broken cables and / or wireless connectors quickly.
Two directional boom lengths are available to accommodate different applications and head sizes: 120 mm (4.7 in) and 100 mm (3.9 in). The boom on this directional mic is 3 cm (1 in) longer than on the omnidirectional version, which matches the need for placement at the corner of the mouth. To avoid "popping", the capsule should not be placed directly in front of the mouth. The 120 mm (4.7 in) is the standard boom length that fits most people.

Comfortable 3-point grip - above, below, behind the ear
Easily adjustable - frame size, boom length, placement
90° adjustable cable guide - keeps cable out of sight
Non-reflective PVD surface on headset frame, boom, capsule
This omni mic offers clean and transparent sound quality with lots of headroom. The microphone’s sensitivity is 6 mV/Pa. This matches the level of the human voice to the general input sensitivity of most wireless transmitters. When powered correctly, the microphone will be able to handle very high sound pressure levels up to 134 dB SPL so users can both speak and sing into the mic with no hint of distortion. The max SPL handling is an impressive 144 dB.
Technically advanced mechanical headset mount construction
The one-size-fits-all Headset is the most advanced construction on the market. It ensures comfort, even during long-term wear, but does so without sacrificing security. Its form grips gently and snuggly around the head and is easily adjustable. The spring mechanisms that grip around the ears are gentle, yet firm enough for you to feel secure during your performance. The Headset can also be customized on site to suit individual performers for perfect fit. These characteristics are also the reason why it was awarded the prestigious Red Dot award in 2019.
One-size fits all, adjustable frame
The headset frame is made of stainless steel and treated with a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating that makes it extremely durable. It can tolerate high temperatures and is resilient against impact and abrasion. The frame is one-size fits all with a simple adjustment mechanism for quick and easy resizing. Anatomically correct, it fits snuggly and comfortably around the head thanks to its unique shape. The entire mic has a pleasant matte look due to the coating, making the entire headset look small and less obtrusive than other headset solutions. Furthermore, it adds nothing to the size of the microphone, as the PVD is extremely durable but at the same time extremely thin.
2-way adjustable boom
The boom can easily be adjusted so that it sits perfectly at the corner of the performer's smile (the optimal placement of a headworn mic). Not only can the boom be extended / shortened, but it can also be pivoted up and down at a fixed point below the ear (no more bending the boom). An anti-rotating mechanism designed into the boom shape, prevents it from rotating. A sliding lock system ensures that the boom is locked into the desired position. The entire boom can be detached at a point below the ear and moved from the right to left side of the frame.
PVD-treated mic
The beige version of this mic are treated with a surface that mimics the color of the boom and adds a very distinct expression of the entire headset.
3-point ear grips
The ear grips on our new headset consist of some amazing technology. Most headsets have either a 1- or 2-point gripping system – resting on top of the ear or (sometimes) gripping below the ear. This headset relies on a 3-point gripping system – adding a support area behind the ear pressing gently inward.
This not only makes the headset sit more securely around the head even in jostling situations, but it also makes it extremely comfortable to wear even over long periods. Furthermore, the advanced, ergonomic shape of these ear grips conforms to the shape of the head.
90° cable management system
The headset has its cable guide directly at the back of the headset frame, so that you can easily organize the cables to run unobtrusively down the back of the performers. The cable guide slides from side to side, so it can be moved out of, for example, the camera view. The special construction also separates the cables from the boom movement, which ensures that cables are not pulled on when the boom is moved. This helps ensure that the mic cable have a long life.
The cable is often the weak spot on these types of mics, but we have opted to use the same size cable (Ø 1.6 mm (.06 in)) as usual. They are extremely rugged, do not become entangled and are equipped with an inner core made of Kevlar that withstands rough pulls and are the highest standard on the market.
The cable, capsule and boom design, ensure immunity to noisy wireless devices. Headsets are typically connected to a wireless belt pack and we offer a comprehensive mix of adapters to suit the many wireless transmitters available. When used with an adapter, the connector is our MicroDot, but we also offer hardwired terminations to suit the most popular systems from manufacturers such as Shure and Sennheiser. All our connectors are equipped with a rugged strain relief.
Adapter system gives you flexibility
The adapters for wireless systems give you flexible, simple and affordable possibilities. You are no longer bound to only one wireless system. As circumstances change, you can just switch your adapter, instead of incurring the cost of a completely new microphone. When you make the switch, you won't hear any loss or change in sound quality from the mic as the adapters are tailored to suit specific transmitter types.
DPA's miniature microphones work with all leading wireless mic solutions, such as Lectrosonics, Sennheiser, Shure, Sony, Wisycom, Zaxcom and many more. DPA Microphones’ ingenious adapter system is one of a kind in the industry. It protects your investment in fantastic sound for years to come. Should you prefer to have your mic hardwired to a specific connector type, DPA offers pre-terminated types for the most popular wireless systems.

DPA Microphones 4080-DC-D-B00 Miniature Cardioid lavalier Mic Omnidirectional
While our miniature omnidirectional mics are ideal for situations where a broad pickup pattern is essential and off-axis noise is not a problem, in some challenging acoustic environments a directional microphone is the better choice. The 4080 Cardioid Lavalier captures the human voice with an unusually high degree of definition. This lavalier mic offers maximum side rejection and excellent sonic focus on the subject. It is designed for broadcast, conference and other live performances both in the studio and in the field.
It is acoustically pre-equalized, offering a 4 dB presence boost, which matches the mic’s chest placement perfectly. This makes the voice more distinguishable and improves speech intelligibility. Professionals will appreciate that it is lightweight and offers excellent speech reproduction.
This mic is delivered with a pre-mounted black pop filter in a holder with an integrated shock mount, fixed on a clip. An additional white pop filter is also included. Because of the flexible and practical mounting solution, the mic can easily be turned in all directions so it fits both left- and right-buttoned shirts.
Flexible adapter system
All of DPA’s microphones can be configured to run easily and effortlessly with a wireless system. We use a unique MicroDot termination on our microphones together with a changeable adapter to ensure secure configuration. All of the adapters we use are original, developed and manufactured by the wireless system brand you use. This ensures that your mic will work consistently with no connection trouble to your system.
The adapters for wireless systems give you flexible, simple and affordable possibilities. You are no longer bound to one wireless system. As circumstances change, you can just switch your adapter, instead of incurring the cost of a new microphone. When you make the switch, you won't hear any loss or change in sound quality.
Using an adapter for wireless, our microphones with MicroDot termination are compatible with the professional wireless systems listed below. Many of these brands have several model numbers. To ensure compatibility you should find your particular model number, which in most cases can be found on the transmitter. Other configurations are possible; however, DPA Microphones cannot guarantee full compatibility in these cases.

DPA 6060-OC-U-B10 3mm Omni Series Subminiature Lavalier Condenser Microphone
6060 CORE Subminiature Lavalier Microphones are just 3 mm (0.12 in) in size but pack the audio power of our larger, award-winning DPA mics. What they lack in size, they more than make up for in clarity, consistency and durability â three qualities that really matter. By shrinking CORE by DPA technology, we ensure you don't have to compromise on sound to focus on aesthetics.
Shrinking CORE into a 3 mm
CORE by DPA is a powerful new technology at the heart of our miniature microphones. Weâve minimized distortion. From a whisper to a scream, you will experience increased clarity and openness.
The cable is often the weak spot on these types of mics, but we have opted to use the same size cable (Ã 1.6 mm (.06 in)) and the same rugged cable relief as on our 5 mm (0.20 in) mics. The cables are extremely durable, do not become entangled and are equipped with an inner core made of Kevlar that withstands rough pulls. A strain relief is integrated in the mic housing to strengthen the assembly.
The cable and capsule design ensure immunity to noisy wireless devices. These mics are typically connected to a wireless belt pack and we offer a comprehensive mix of adapters to suit the many wireless transmitters available. When used with an adapter, the connector is our MicroDot but we also offer hardwired terminations to suit the most popular systems from manufactures such as Shure and Sennheiser. All of our connectors are equipped with a rugged strain relief.

DPA 4466-OC-R-F10 Core Omnidirectional Polar Pattern Headset Microphone
The 4466 CORE Omnidirectional Headset Microphone combines DPAâs renowned 5 mm capsules with CORE by DPA technology and the Red Dot award-winning headset.
These are the most advanced headset microphone â secure, durable and flexible â for segments including: Theatre, Broadcast, House of Worship and Conferencing.
This omni mic offers clean and transparent sound quality with lots of headroom. The microphoneâs sensitivity is 6 mV/Pa.
We have also added a service connector at the end of the boom pole so that the boom and cable can be replaced independently if needed. The service connector is well-protected by a plastic cover that slides over the gold-plated connectors.
PVD-treated mic
The beige and brown versions of this mic are treated with a surface that mimics the color of the boom and adds a very distinct expression of the entire headset.
3-point ear grips
The ear grips on our new headset consist of some amazing technology. Most headsets have either a 1- or 2-point gripping system â resting on top of the ear or (sometimes) gripping below the ear. This headset relies on a 3-point gripping system â adding a support area behind the ear pressing gently inward.
The cable is often the weak spot on these types of mics, but we have opted to use the same size cable (Ã 1.6 mm (.06 in)) as usual. They are extremely rugged, do not become entangled and are equipped with an inner core made of Kevlar that withstands rough pulls and are the highest standard on the market.

The 4099C attaches to the C and A string below the bridge and allows for microphone capsule placement in the sweet spot between bridge and fingerboard, offering a unique combination of natural string sound and high audio separation on stage.
Representing years of research and development, the 4099 condenser microphones feature supercardioid polar patterns for superior gain-before-feedback. Fully capable of handling the cellos dynamic range and subtle details, these microphones live up to their pedigree with sound as accurate as DPAs other world-class microphones.
Despite its tiny, discreet size and elegant, lightweight design, the 4099C is extremely rugged. The versatile gooseneck provides stable and repeatable positioning. The mics can be easily unclipped and repositioned or moved to another instrument, while the mounting system is designed never to mar or scratch the finish of your instrument nor changing the sonic character of it.
Through the use of our extensive adapter system, the 4099 can be used as a standard 48V phantom powered microphone via the included XLR connector and is also compatible with virtually any wireless system.
Fleet owners of 4099s will appreciate the multiplicity of using the microphone for a number of different instruments simply by moving the microphone/gooseneck part to another instrument clip from the range.
With its very flexible design for a wide variety of mounting and positioning possibilities along with its extremely natural sound, the 4099 is truly a musicians mic without equal. Continuing DPAs heritage of sonic excellence, this series of microphones achieves the purest reproduction of your instrument and therefore your full range of expression.
Optional gooseneck extension
Standard gooseneck length is 140 mm (5.5 in), which can be altered with the optional gooseneck extension unit, adding another 50% to the length, helping to achieve exactly the sweet spot for the instrument.
Detachable cables
The updated 4099 range features detachable cable from gooseneck, so its more convenient to mount the mic on an instrument before connecting it. Furthermore, the choice of different cable qualities makes it possible to tailor yourmic to the specific task, such as choosing the heavy duty 2.2 mm cable for PA/Live gigs or the easier-to-hide, thinner miniature cable for personal mounting on instruments where you dont want the cable weight to interfere with your performance. In case of cable break, service is easy and fast.

DPA 4288-DC-F-F10-LH Cardioid Flex Directional Headset and Ear Set Microphone
Combining the legendary sound of the 4088 Directional Capsule with the lightweight and DPA's flexible headset system, the 4288 Directional Headset Microphone is ideal for both spoken word and vocal performance applications. This headset mic offers accurate and natural voice intelligibility and very high-SPL capabilities â users can both speak and sing into the mic with no hint of distortion.
This means that the bass roll-off will be relatively prominent at a greater distance â a paramount factor when it comes to rejection of background noise and in the fight to avoid feedback.
A bit about cardioids
Named for its âheart shapedâ polar pattern, a cardioid (or directional) microphone has the most sensitivity at the front and is least sensitive from the sides and at the back. They come in many variations â with wider or narrower angles of sensitivity (supercardioid, hypercardioid, wide cardioid etc.).
Due to their nature, directional mics are often used on the live stage â both during concerts as well as spoken-word events, to capture the focused sound of an instrument or voice.
Adapter system gives you flexibility
The adapters for wireless systems give you flexible, simple and affordable possibilities. You are no longer bound to one wireless system. As circumstances change, you can just switch your adapter, instead of incurring the cost of a completely new microphone. When you make the switch, you won't hear any loss or change in sound quality.
DPA's miniature microphones work with all leading wireless mic solutions, such as Lectrosonics, Sennheiser, Shure, Sony, Wisycom, Zaxcom and many more. DPA Microphonesâ ingenious adapter system is one of a kind in the industry. It protects your investment in fantastic sound for years to c
